Galileo

introduction:

Galileo was a very important man he studied astronomy and physics he was a very wise man who liked to challenge people with their thinking. He acted like a wise guy and was very sarcastic which means he was very confident. He agreed with capurnicus and disagreed with aristotle about the arangement of the stars and the solar system. He was born february 15, 1564 and died Jan. 8th 1642 . he was blamed for heresy and instead of being killed he was jailed for the rest of his life because he had connections with a friend of the inquisition. He befriended a woman of lower class which he could not marry because of that reason he had two daughters and a son with her. He paid the cardinals to give his son a last name so he would get married and carry on the name but his two daughters had to be nuns because he could not pay for it one became crazy the other a great writer.

moon observations:

Galileo observed that there were mountains and craters on the moon with his telescope, many did not believe him and they didnt find out until later he was telling the truth. Galileo improved the functions of the telescope and he used it to observe the sky, stars, moon, and planets. he saw things like orions belt, pleaides, and the milky way itself although many of the stars are not visible with the naked eye.

jupiter and its moons:

Galileo discovered the 4 moons of jupiter he named them Io,ganymede, europa, and callisto. Because of this discovery it was known that not all objects orbit around the earth it proved that galileo was right and that jupiter had an orbit where its moons took place. Then that all planets orbited the sun and that moons always orbit a planet never the sun.

Saturn's rings:

Galileo was also the first to observe Saturns rings which are made up of a series of tiny ringlets which are very bright. they are made of dust and dirt that is caught in saturns orbit and forms nto a ring shape because it is swirled around in a circle many times.

Sunspots on the sun

Sunspots are temporary phenomena that occurs on the suns photosphere and appear as visibly dark spots in comparison to other parts of the sun. They are caused by tense magnetic activity which leaves them as the intensity of a heated black body.

Venus has phases:

The phases of venus are simply different variations of light seen on the planets surface similar to moon phases or lunar phases. the first recorded observations of them were by telescope by Galileo Galilei in 1610. the phases of venus (particularly the extreme crescent phase) have been observed with the naked eye although none have been recorded.
